Watchdog: Crt fines FB, Twitter, WhatsApp for non-localized data
MOSCOW, Aug 26 (PRIME) -- The magistrate of judicial district 422 of the Tagansky District of Moscow has fined social networks Facebook and Twitter 15 million rubles and 17 million rubles, respectively, and messenger WhatsApp 4 million rubles for the refusal to localize Russians’ personal data, the communications service said on Thursday.
Facebook was punished for “repeated violations of the requirement to localize user data”, the watchdog said. The social network was fined 4 million rubles in February 2020 for non-provision of information on localization of bases with data of the Russian users.
Twitter was also fined for repeated violations. The social network was fined 4 million rubles in June.
The 4 million ruble fine has become the first of this kind for WhatsApp.
